Fraud Alert

At FatCat Loans Canada, your privacy and safety are our top priorities.

We want to help protect you from fraudsters who try to take advantage of people looking for loans. This page explains how loan scams work and what you can do to stay safe.

How to Protect Yourself from Loan Scams

Top Tips to Stay Safe

  • Never pay money upfront for a loan or approval — it’s illegal for any company to demand payment before providing credit.
  • Be cautious with email addresses and phone numbers. Scammers often use fake Gmail or Hotmail addresses that look similar to a real company’s details.
  • Don’t share personal information unless you are 100% sure who you’re dealing with.
  • Fraudsters may pressure you with urgency or emotional stories — don’t fall for their tactics or send them money.
  • If something feels off or too good to be true, it usually is. Stop and verify directly with the legitimate company before taking any action.

Common Scam: “Clone” Loan Firms

Some fraudsters pretend to represent real lenders by copying their logos, website style, or even office addresses. They contact victims by phone, email, or text claiming a loan is “approved,” but ask for upfront fees or “taxes” before releasing funds.

They may also ask you to send money using untraceable payment methods — such as cryptocurrency (Bitcoin), e-transfer, or prepaid cards. Once the money is sent, it’s nearly impossible to recover.

These scammers are not associated with FatCat Loans Canada or any of our lending partners. FatCat Loans Canada will never ask for upfront fees or application payments of any kind. Any message or email requesting payment before receiving a loan is fraudulent.

Warning Signs of a Scam

  • Requests for money before your loan is funded.
  • Demands for payment through crypto, gift cards, or prepaid debit cards.
  • Emails or texts claiming “guaranteed approval” or asking for personal details urgently.
  • Documents or emails that look official but come from free or misspelled domains.
